Campaigning for Fair Pay

Napo joined with 25 other unions today to launch the TUC’s “Speak up for Public Services” campaign.

The campaign is primarily aimed at bringing public sector unions together to coordinate action over pay and to get the Government to rethink its 2% target for public sector pay increases for the coming year.

The launch of this TUC campaign is timely as we are in the process of finalising our claim for probation members.

Below is a copy of a circular issued to branches today summarising our claim and setting out our plans for resisting any attempts to block or delay the increments that members rightly expect to receive from 1 April 2008.

Police Pay

Today the Police Federation has a special conference to consider how to respond to Jacqui Smith's decision not to back date their 2.5% pay deal, an outcome of arbitration, to its due date of 1 September. The 2.5% increase was bad enough, but the Government's decision not to honour the operative date is making the police feel understandably militant. We have sent the Police Federation a message of support in their campaign for fair pay.

PCS Members Strike in DWP

Members of PCS in the Department of Work and Pensions are on strike today and tomorrow over a below inflation pay offer which the Department is threatening to impose.

The three year pay deal on offer would mean a 2% increase for long serving staff this year, 0% next year and 1% the following year.

Napo has sent a message of support and solidarity to PCS.
